Anal Abscess Treatment

Urgent surgical drainage of the abscess is necessary, usually under general anesthesia. Following the procedure, the patient is prescribed pain killers and broad-spectrum antibiotics for 4-5 days.  Patients are advised to soak the site of drainage in lukewarm water containing diluted antiseptics (sitzbaths) 2-3 times daily.

In patients with recurring anal abscesses, screening for inflammatory bowel disease and diabetes is advisable.
